AC Replacement in Newhall: The Price and What the Quote Covers

You have decided the old central air in your Newhall home is done, or you are close. Now you need two answers: what an AC replacement costs here, and what exactly you are paying for. This page gives you the local range, walks through each line of the written quote and shows how the work gets booked.

What an AC replacement costs in Newhall

Most Newhall AC installations run between $5,800 and $9,200 depending on tonnage, SEER2 rating, and whether duct replacement is part of the scope.

Here is how those three factors push your number up or down.

  • Tonnage. The cooling capacity your home needs. A single-storey house off San Fernando Road needs less than a large two-storey home in Stevenson Ranch.
  • SEER2 rating. The federal efficiency rating. A higher rated unit costs more up front and uses less power through a long valley summer.
  • Ducts. Reusing sound ducts keeps the job inside the lower part of the range. Replacing sections or a full run moves it up.

Your quote is written after a site visit, before any equipment is ordered. To get that visit on the calendar, give us the age of your current unit and the size of the home in the replacement quote request.

Every line on the written quote

A replacement quote should read like a parts list, not a single lump number. Ours shows each item so you can compare it with any other quote you collect.

Quote lineWhat it covers
Outdoor condenserThe new unit, by tonnage and SEER2 rating
Indoor coil or air handlerMatched to the new condenser
Refrigerant line setReused if it tests sound, replaced if not
Pad and electricalDisconnect, wiring and any breaker work the new unit needs
ThermostatKept, replaced or upgraded
Removal of old equipmentTaken out and hauled away from your property
PermitFiled with City of Santa Clarita Building and Safety
Title 24 testingDuct sealing and a leakage test where the scope calls for it

Depending on the scope, Title 24 can require duct sealing and a duct leakage test, verified by a third-party HERS rater who is not the installer. We schedule that rater and show the step on your quote, so you know it is coming.

New split systems sold today are made with lower-GWP A2L refrigerants such as R-454B or R-32. If your old unit runs on R-22, which is no longer produced, the replacement takes you off that refrigerant for good.

When the ducts get replaced too

The ducts decide more of the final price than most people expect. Before we write the number, the tech checks the runs you have.

We look for crushed or kinked runs in the attic, joints that have pulled apart, worn insulation on the outside of the duct and returns too small for the new unit. If the ducts are sound, we seal and reuse them. If sections are failing, the quote lists those sections and their cost on their own line. Full replacement only goes on the quote when the system cannot work as it should without it.

Older Newhall and Saugus homes often have long attic runs that have aged along with the old unit. Two-storey Valencia houses can have runs that feed the upper floor poorly. Either way, our ductwork services crew tests first and the quote shows what they found.

If a single room has never been on the central system, a converted garage or an addition for example, a ductless mini split for that room can be quoted next to the central unit.

How install day runs

Once you approve the quote, we file the permit and set a date. A straight AC swap can take one full day. Jobs with duct sections or electrical panel work can take two.

On the day, the crew removes the old condenser and coil, sets the new equipment, connects the line set and wiring, then starts the system and tests it with you. We leave the work area clean. The HERS test and the city inspection follow on their own dates, and we coordinate both.

If your home is in a planned community, your HOA may need to approve the new outdoor unit before work starts. Tell us when you book and we will build that into the timeline.

FAQ

Can I replace only the outdoor unit?

Sometimes, but the indoor coil usually gets replaced along with it so the two are matched. The quote explains which parts are being replaced and why. If reusing the coil makes sense for your system, we say so.

Will you still quote a repair if one makes sense?

Yes. If the tech finds the unit can be fixed for a fair price, you get that option in writing as well. The choice stays with you, and we take AC installation and repair calls alike.

How soon can the new system go in?

That depends on equipment availability and the permit. Most installs are scheduled within a week of your go-ahead. We give you the date when you sign.

Do you haul away the old unit?

Yes. Removal and disposal of the old condenser and coil is a line on the quote. Refrigerant is recovered before the old equipment leaves your home.

What do you need from me to write the quote?

Access to the outdoor unit, the indoor unit and the attic, plus a rough idea of any rooms that run hot. The site visit covers the rest.
